about

The 2013 album Polarizer by Joey Chaos before Joey Chaos and The Ghosts has been revisited, reinterpreted, and remastered from the original sessions. What started as a curiosity in the early days of the pandemic turned into a full-fledged media archeology dig. The dormant master files were dug up from a myriad of resuscitated hard drives and the dark web scoured for archaic versions of defunct music software necessary to open them.

We discovered that some files were too corrupt to be salvageable and began to re-record certain sections while maintaining the integrity of the originals – all the original programming, patches, samples and vocals were preserved for the updated version of the album. We’ve also expanded the experience with a few remixes from the era as well as two new ones written specifically for this release.

Born from the disenfranchisement of a stagnant dark alternative music scene and a devotion to the endless scroll of the tumblr music, this album is the crystallization of a headphone fever dream, unrepentant in its artist driven indulgences. Later these elements would be distilled and refined, their base materiality repurposed into our current iteration of Joey Chaos and The Ghosts, a transformation impossible without this first album.
